Belle Mer Graphics

A long while ago I featured some lovely black and white art prints inspired by the natural world. Lovely as they were (I bought the irresistible fox print), I think it's time for a bit more colour on our walls. Therefore this weeks shopping pick is Etsy store Belle Mer Graphics who produce vintage art prints inspired by the sea. Here are a few of my favourites, but there are over 100 more available on-line.

These would look great framed in clusters, maybe in the bathroom which would tie-in with the water theme.

Although based in the US Belle Mer Graphics do ship worldwide and the prints are reasonably priced at around £6.50 each. -Laura.

William Morris Cushions

If you like British designer William Morris then you'll be pleased to know that his 'Strawberry Thief' print is now available in cushion form at John Lewis.

The design comes in the three colours above (chocolate, indigo and slate) and would set you back just £35.

The 'Strawberry Thief' print is one of the most iconic and successful prints by the Arts and Crafts designer and is still popular today. It was first produced in the 1880s and references the birds that used to steal the fruit growing in Morris' Oxfordshire garden.

We, The Drowned

We've been transfixed by all things Danish for the last couple of years, haven't we?  While you wait for season three of the Killing, plunge into We, The Drowned, the astonishing sea-faring epic novel by Danish novelist Carsten Jensen in which a young man searches the world for his father, a sailor, who returned from fighting the Germans in the Treårskrigen a changed man and immediately disappeared again - Albert's hunt take him all over a brilliantly described world from Newfoundland to Samoa.  The relationship between father and son, Laurids and Albert Madsen, is only one of the threads that winds through this substantial novel (bring it on holiday - it will keep you occupied for quite some time at nearly 700 pages).  Apart from anything else, I was immediately taken by the presentation of the paperback edition - the striking pen and ink drawing is dramatically set off by the vivid blue edging on the paper.
