I love things that can be used. It might sound like quite an obvious thing to say, but how often have you been guilty of buying a thing of beauty that you adore, but haven't dared to use in case you damage or break it? I know that I have done this in the past, but it is a habit I have been striving to break - I now make myself USE the treasures I have accumulated, whether it means eating my weetabix with a decorative Victorian silver spoon or cracking out the cashmere blankets on an unreasonably nippy summer night.
It doesn't take any effort to make myself use my fabulous antique German grainsack cushions though - I knew as soon as I saw them that they were tough enough to withstand anything. I have a set of three on my own sofa - a large one and two bolsters from the same sack. Unexpectedly, I probably use the bolsters even more than the large one, even though I wondered about their practicality to start with. Elegant, comfortable and indestructable - three very important words when you have a toddler about!
There are several sets available on the Natural History website at the moment and more to be added this week - go and have a look and tell me what you think!
